Recreate the Feminine-Meets-Edgy Hair and Makeup Looks From Jason Wu’s FW23 Runway Show

02/17/2023

Jason Wu’s Fall 2023 runway show was an excellent fusion of edginess and femininity, with a well rounded yet still cohesive range of colors and silhouettes. “I wanted to push the brand’s code of confident, yet refined elegance with menswear inspired deconstructed tailoring, trimmed with feminine chiffon and lace details,” shared designer Jason Wu, regarding the collection. As for the  hair and makeup that accompanied the collection, they embodied the same masculine-meet-feminine mood.

The Hair

Working as lead hairstylist, Olaplex ambassador Jimmy Paul created 90’s-inspired sleek buns with deep side parts  that worked to elevate this chic runway.

Paul states, “I wanted to create a look of modern individualism, while also being sexy, cinematic and moody. Each model has a look of intense confidence, reflective of a new, edgy mood this season for Jason Wu as compared to last season which was a bit more fragile and softer.”

Looking to incorporate these looks into your own hair repertoire? To start, ditch your normal hair part and try parting far to the right side of your head. Protect your hair and give it an extra bit of shine by applying OLAPLEX No. 6 Bond Smoother ($30.00) and OLAPLEX No. 7 Bonding Oil ($30.00). After applying these products, pull your hair back and secure it at  the nape of your neck. Next, to create the phenomenon of wet hair, add OLAPLEX No. 9 Bond Protector Nourishing Hair Serum ($30.00). Twist the hair and use a pin to secure a tight bun.

“This is an effortlessly sexy and edgy look that will translate easily from the runway to everyday wear,” Paul shared. “I recommend OLAPLEX products because they were the first to develop a haircare product designed to relink the damaged disulfide bonds in the hair which are responsible for strength, structure and hair health.  I see first-hand the transformative power these products make in minutes on my clients every day and enjoy working with them because they not only offer high performance hair styling benefits, their famous bond-building technology provides treatment benefits as well to dramatically improve the strength of the hair while making it more durable and resilient toward future damage for improved hair health.”

The Makeup

When it came to the  beauty looks for  the Jason Wu show, lead makeup artist Diane Kendal opted  for smoky eyes paired with smudged out liner and natural, glossy lips.

“This look reflects this season’s outfits by combining sexy touches with a bit of edge.” said Kendal, who used all Jason Wu Beauty products “Eyes are the punctuation of these looks with beautiful smoky eyes that give a nod to cinema.”
