Rena Calhoun Proves Romance Isn’t Dead With Mikey Madison’s Critics Choice Awards Hairstyle

02/09/2025

Softness — we could all use some of it these days. What we loved most about Anora star Mikey Madison’s appearance at the 2025 Critics Choice Awards was exactly that. Her hair was worn partially back with delicate pinning and down with pronounced but ethereal waves by Rena Calhoun. Light as air. Statement-making but subtle. Totally swoon-worthy.

Calhoun tells The Tease that the look was “inspired by the classic and timeless femininity of the dress. I was inspired by old images of glamorous Hollywood stars like Grace Kelly and Veronica Lake.” The style was executed with Monday Haircare products and Calhoun shares exactly how she put them to work below.

Prep

To get red carpet ready, Calhoun says, “Mikey prepped her hair with Monday Anti-Frizz Hair Mask. I recommend my clients to leave the mask in for 20 mins before a big day or a red carpet.” Read on for her how-to!

Day-of Styling

  1. “On damp clean hair, I applied Monday Moisture Leave in Conditioner to further combat frizz. I wanted this hair to feel as soft and silky as possible. I then blew dry the hair using a round brush, creating bounce and body while also smoothing.
  2. Then, with a half inch curling iron, I took 2in by 2in sections all around the head wrapping each section around the barrel of the iron in a forward direction. After each section is curled I wait until it’s fully cooled down and set before brushing through and molding the hair into a uniform wave.
  3. The sides are pulled back loosely to expose her beautiful bone structure, still framing the face in a flattering way. Once I’m happy with the shape, I locked everything in with Monday Sleek Hold Hairspray!
