The Best Hair Moments from Beyoncé’s ‘Black Is King’

08/03/2020

After weeks of delicious teasers and trailer drops, Beyoncé’s highly-anticipated visual album is finally here.

Black is King, which dropped on Disney+, early Friday morning, is truly a celebration of Black beauty at its fullest, with its stunning visuals and over-the-top costume changes. Within the opening three minutes Queen Bey states: “let Black be synonymous with glory,” and she certainly delivered on that statement with the hair alone.

What follows in the remaining 82-minutes of the film is a dazzling parade of unbelievable hair moments that are 100% worth obsessing over. With her long-time hairstylists Neal Farinah, Kim Kimble, and Nakia Rachon Collin leading the hair direction and working their magic, Bey was able to breathe new life into an array of traditional African hairstyles spanning multiple countries and cultures.

From sculptural hairpieces to beaded bobs, Black is King is full of countless hair inspiration for members of the Beyhive to recreate. We rounded up some of our personal favorites that you’ll definitely want to bookmark for your next hair appointment.

“Find Your Way Back”

Beyoncé sure knows how to bring the glamour! The singer was dripping in jewels right down to her crystal highlights.

“Mood4Eva”

Bey serving as the black Queen chess piece was a WHOLE MOOD and so was that beautifully braided crown.

“Already”

Beyoncé can rock a sky-high ponytail like no other and this one with a braided base was super fierce!

“Water”

These waist-length jumbo Senegalese twists are giving me major hair envy.

Bey took her natural curls to new heights with this dreamy sculptural ponytail and we’re so here for it.

Umm, Rapunzel who? Beyoncé really gave us braids so long that they needed their own ladder.

“Brown Skin Girl”

So many examples of just how beautiful and versatile Black hair can be.

We couldn’t take our eyes off this braided finger waves updo. It’s just that good!

From the beaded bangs to that braided cone, there’s so many things to love about this hairstyle.

A sweet moment between friends called for an equally sweet hairdo. Bey and her bestie Kelly Rowland both rocked matching beehives and we couldn’t be more obsessed.

“Key to the Kingdom”

I don’t know what’s more stunning: those Cleopatra-esque beaded headpieces or that hot pink buzzcut.

“My Power”

These intricate hairstyles created using red clay by the Himba women of Namibia were utterly breathtaking.

Not only did rapper Tierra Whack totally kill her verse on “My Power”, she also left us speechless with this unbelievable pretzel-shaped braid that’s decked out in shell embellishments.

To see more stunning hair looks, make sure to check out Black is King, exclusively on Disney+.
