The Most Standout Hairstyles From NYFW Spring 2022

09/15/2021

After being forced to go virtual for the past two seasons due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, New York Fashion Week came back in full force this past week, setting the city abuzz with the return of live and in-person runway shows and presentations. Though the shows were much more intimate and socially distant than year’s past, that didn’t stop designers from delivering only their very best when it came to their Spring 2022 collections.

And, not only were their designs spectacular, but so was the hair. From the undone buns at Alice + Olivia to the sculptural ponytails at Christian Siriano, this year’s fashion week blessed us all with plenty of hair inspiration to bookmark (and possibly recreate!) in the months ahead.

Ahead, five of our favorite hair moments from NYFW.

Y2K Realness at Collina Strada

Collina Strada had us all ready to be a sk8er girl—or at the very least style our hair like one—at their dreamy garden runway show. From crimped locks and chunky highlights to two-toned hair extensions, the Y2K-era punk vibes were strong when it came to the hair. The hair mastermind behind all of these cool-girl looks was Evanie Fausto, who relied heavily on Redken products. According to Vogue, Fausto was inspired by the “MySpace, scene kid, and emo scenes of the early aughts.” Let’s just say, Avril Lavigne would be super proud!

Big Bead Energy at Moschino

Creative director Jeremy Scott’s Moschino runway show was a candy-colored dream complete with pastel hues, childlike motifs, (think: cuddly, patchwork animals, retro refrigerator magnet lettering, and heart-shaped purses) and even Gigi Hadid sporting a baby’s bottle. The hair was just as sweet thanks to hairstylist Danilo and his team who crafted voluminous bouffants—and my personal favorite: rainbow-beaded box braids. Seeing all those bright, colorful beads was such a throwback and no doubt had many ‘90s kids feeling super nostalgic—myself included!

Messy Buns at Alice + Olivia

As the hair at Alice + Olivia proved, hair accessories are not going anywhere anytime soon. To complement the bold, colorful collection that designer Stacey Bendet dreamed up for the upcoming spring season, celebrity hairstylist and TRESemme Global stylist Justine Marjan crafted undone messy buns decked out with a mix of hand-painted monochromatic hair clips. The look, which was created using all TRESemme products, is totally eye-catching and honestly, who doesn’t love a good monochromatic moment?

Sculptural Braids at Christian Siriano

Designer Christian Siriano may have looked to the past—specifically the 60’s and 70’s when designing his Spring 2022 collection, but when it came to the show’s hair, it was all about the future. Hairstylist Jawara Wauchope created super next-level, sculptural braided ponytails adorned with colorful ribbons using all Dyson hair products. We love how it looks so sleek from the front, but then transitions into all of the intricate braidwork.

Texture Party At LaQuan Smith

A collection as sexy as LaQuan Smith’s required equally as hot hair and celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway totally delivered on all fronts. Redway who’s known for her killer braids and baby hairs served up both in abundance for the super sultry runway show. The stylist focused on highlighting each model’s natural  texture, giving them super high ponytails or gorgeous waves, with swirled and swooped baby hairs, of course!
