Jade rollers are the new tool on the block when it comes to taking care of your skin.  Jade is a hard, typically green stone that has been used by Chinese empresses since the 17th century to improve skin elasticity and blood flow to achieve that beautiful glow. Jade rollers are a paint roller–type tool for the face made from solid jade stone that’s been said to decrease puffiness and under-eye circles, and even minimize the look of fine lines and wrinkles.  The tool generally features a larger stone for cheeks, jaw and forehead and a smaller stone for under the eyes and around the mouth.

The 411 on the benefits:

The most well-known benefit of using a jade roller is that it helps to reduce puffiness and inflammation (redness) in the face due to stagnation of the lymphatic system. The gentle massaging motion helps to increase circulation and stimulate the lymphatic system and lymphatic drainage throughout the face.  The end result is that it will help diminish the appearance of fine lines.

How to use:

First, apply your favorite serum or elixir to clean skin.  Then apply gentle pressure while rolling the tool from the center of your face, in upward and outward motions.  Make sweeping motions up under the chin towards ears, then down the neck toward the collar bones. For sinus pressure: Use a warmed washcloth and place over your nose, forehead, and cheekbones. Roll the small roller from the center of your face down either side of the nose, finishing toward the cheek bones.

It’s possible that the massaging motion of the jade roller can, on some level, stimulate certain hormones and have a relaxing effect on one’s well-being and stress levels, which can, in turn, affect acne.  Meaning if you’re less stressed, less chance of acne flaring up.  Also, if you have less inflammation in your face, that decreases the chance of acne too.

Moreover, jade rollers are a fun addition to your skincare routine!
