6 Low-Maintenance Haircuts Everyone Wants Right Now

08/24/2021

As much as we all love baby bangs, cool undercuts, and asymmetrical bobs, the idea of taking on such high maintenance haircuts right now just seems less than ideal. The reality is that for a lot of us, we can’t find the time to spend hours styling our hair every single day — especially during a pandemic.

That’s why it’s time to start embracing haircuts that keep styling and maintenance to an absolute minimum. Using some of our favorite celebs as inspo, we rounded up a few of our favorite low-maintenance haircuts that you’ll definitely want to try at your next salon visit.

Here, six low-maintenance haircuts to help make your life so much easier.

Modern Mullet

Since making a comeback in 2020, the mullet has become the cut of choice for It girls like Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Barbie Ferreira —or really anyone looking for a short, choppy cut. The enduring appeal of this “business in the front, party in the back” style lies in its low maintenance styling. No matter your hair length and texture, this is one cut that’s highly suitable to wash-n-wear as air drying will help give your strands a natural finish. In fact, to play up the texture don’t be afraid to bust out your favorite texturizing spray to liven up the style.

Power Bald

Nothing says power move quite like shaving off all your hair. After all, who says that you have to have long hair to look good? Stars like Iris Law, Jada Pinkett Smith, and Gossip Girl’s very own Jordan Alexander have been ditching their strands in favor of a more cropped look. We can’t say that we blame them because aside from looking super striking, the style is fairly easy to maintain. Just be prepared for touch-ups to keep your cut looking fresh and remember to pack on the SPF!

Buzz Cut

There’s a reason why so many stars like Halsey, Tiffany Haddish, and Ruby Rose have joined team buzz cut: they’re effortlessly cool and a breeze to look after. With this super-short length, you don’t have to worry about styling at all—simply get up and go. In fact, you’ll just want to maintain the low cut with weekly touch-ups and make sure your hair remains nourished with the help of a good hair oil.

Big Chop

Fancy a short cut, but not quite ready to buzz or shave your hair all off? Let me introduce you to the pixie cut. Perfect for showing off your bone structure, this cut is extremely versatile and can be styled a multitude of ways: sleek and slicked back, messy and undone, or with tons of volume on top. The best part? The maintenance is fairly low. You will need to get a trim about every four to six weeks, but as far as styling, just make sure you have a good texturizing spray or pomade around.

Curly Shag

Forget the regular shag—the curly shag is totally where it’s at! Instead of super straight strands, stars like Selena Gomez are opting for a revamped version of the popular ‘70s cut that’s heavy on the curls and volume. What’s great about this shag is that it’s totally fuss-free and super easy to manage. In fact, the messier and more undone your cut looks the better! Better yet, it’s a style with longevity and one that will grow out fairly nice.

One Length

It just might be time to ditch those layers! As of late, it’s never been cooler to rock the one-length look. This super simple cut makes quite a statement thanks to its blunt ends. Not to mention, it looks stunning paired with either a middle part or a deep side part. As far as styling, you’ll want to rely on frizz-fighting products to keep your strands looking smooth.
