Zara Larsson posted “Summer isn’t over yet at the VMAs!!!!!!” to her IG alongside content from the show and, honestly, she’s not wrong. The Swedish superstar, working with hair artist John Novotny, definitely supplied the “Midnight Sun.”
Novotny described her hairstyle as a “Beach Blonde Barbie look,” a reference we got immediately. It was also a little Y2K, especially with the blingy accessories and pops of vibrant color in Larsson’s pearly blonde locks, which we love. So, we got in touch — and Novotny graciously broke down the whole style.

Get the Look:
- “Prep hair with Glaze Super Color Conditioning Gloss in Pearl Blonde to pre-tone blonde — leave in for 10 min then rinse.
- Air dry to 80%, add in Oribe Imperial Blowout Transformative Styling Hair Cream and rake through hair with hands, and then blow dry with medium ceramic round brush bumping the ends under. Pin up section by section rolling the hair under and making sure the crown sections are blown back with ample lift.
- Add in colored clip-ins as desired.
- Blow dry bangs to the side and clip away
- Curl ends adding wave with 1.5 inch iron.
- Brush out hair and spray with Elnett hairspray.”
