Ever the beauty trendsetter, Chappell Roan, working with makeup artist Andrew Dahling for MAC Cosmetics, gifted us two unforgettable and bound to be copied moments at the 2026 Grammys. Both took inspiration from the singer’s gowns.
Of the first, more daring, look, Dahling tells us, “It’s a Mugler medieval fantasy for the carpet. We wanted the look to be sultry and smoky, with a little ’90s influence to honor the era this archival gown comes from.” He adds, “a taupe smoky eye with a touch of shimmering liner, paired with what I’m calling a nude-red lip. Sultry, smoky, with a touch of glam.”
Keep reading for a detailed breakdown on that look, and the second, what we’re dubbing the “Archival Rodarte Ethereal Glam.”

Get the Look: Mugler Medieval Fantasy
- “So for the red carpet, it was all about the sultry Smokey eye to create the medieval goddess fantasy! I started by doing a wash of Taylor grey paint pot on the lid out into the temples and bottom lashes as well.
- Then added some dimension in the crease with deeper shadows and a little smudge of feline to create some dimension.
- Then to create the liner I mixed some dazzle shadow, shadow sticks and a little mixing medium together to get the tight champagne shade and texture, a little mixology artistry for ya nerve!
- Then I blended some blush into the eye and cheeks to create a flushed smoked out blush moment.
- Then the lip we wanted to keep a little monochromatic neutral but it needed something. I’m calling it a nude red lip, plum lip liner with auburn blended in the corner and a little warm nude in the center.”

Dahling says, “This look was inspired by the effervescence of the archival Rodarte. We wanted to lean into a more ethereal glam. With 15 minutes to change, we decided a dazzling eye with a pale, cool-toned lavender smoke was the perfect choice. The dress felt like it was floating, and I wanted the sparkle to honor how delicately breathtaking it was. Smoky sparkle for a moody effervescence was the vibe.”

- “We had literally 15 minutes to change the glam. The lip was already working perfectly, but we needed shimmer, so the Dazzle Lip Crayon was perfect to add that effervescent finish.
- I started by applying Black Ice all around the eyes, then layered shadows to create a cool-toned lavender smokey eye.
- From there, I strategically placed Dazzle shadows and liquids to add the sparkle and ethereal glamour the look called for.
- The lavender blush was created by mixing a liquid purple blush with a bit of white cream foundation and layering it over the existing blush to soften it and add a cool-toned lavender moment that looks stunning on her.”
