Surprise! Chris Appleton, hairstylist to Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez and countless other A-listers, went and wrote a book. Your Roots Don’t Define You, set to publish in January 2026 was literally just announced.
Taking to Instagram to break the news, Appleton writes, “This isn’t just a book about hair. It’s about identity. Reinvention. And breaking free from the version of yourself the world told you to be.” He expands, “For years, I hid behind an image — playing it safe, playing it straight, trying to be what everyone else expected. But behind closed doors, I was crumbling under the pressure of pretending to be someone I wasn’t. While book’s pre-order site description says that it will be full of “self-help insights, real-life stories, and the same confidence-igniting tools he uses with his A-list clients,” it’s definitely not a memoir. Your Roots Don’t Define You is being positioned as “a step-by-step guide to reclaiming your confidence, redefining your style, and creating your own comeback.” Feels right to ring in the new year.
