Gen Z Breakout Barbie Ferreira’s Oscars Hair Was a Modern Take on Old Hollywood

03/16/2026

Old Hollywood waves that don’t feel old were a definite trend on last night’s Oscars red carpet. Case in point: “Euphoria” breakout star Barbie Ferreira, who sadly won’t be back for season 3, rocked loose waves by Clayton Hawkins that felt just right.

Hawkins says, “For Barbie Ferreira’s Oscars look, we wanted to pay tribute to classic Old Hollywood glamour. The second I saw her in that dress, it was giving va va voom, so we really leaned into that energy.” He adds, “The goal was big, bouncy, ultra-glamorous hair with tons of volume and shine—something that felt timeless, polished, and unapologetically glamorous.”

To get that volume and shine, Hawkins turned to amika styling products and Donna Bella clip-in extensions. Read on for a breakdown of the look.

Get the Look:

  1. Start with damp hair and apply amika Plus Size Perfect Body Hair Mousse ($28.00) from roots to ends for volume and structure.
  2. Blow-dry the hair using a boar bristle brush to create a smooth, full-bodied base. Once the hair was blown out, Hawkins added a couple rows of Donna Bella clip in extensions (From $175.00) in a mix of 5N and 3N for volume and texture memory.
  3. Using a 1.25-inch curling iron, create a classic roller set by curling each row and alternating the direction of the curls.
  4. After curling, set the hair in plastic rollers and allow it to cool completely to lock in shape and bounce. Once cooled, remove the rollers and brush through the curls thoroughly — continuous brushing is key to achieving that soft, sculpted Old Hollywood wave.
  5. Lightly set the front sections with amika Headstrong Intense Hold Hairspray ($27.00) to keep the style polished and defined.
  6. Finish by misting amika Soulstruck Nourishing Dry Hair Mask ($32.00) throughout the hair for ultimate shine and softness that will last all night.
