Hair Industry Vets Ray Civello & Lupe Voss Launch Color Space

11/09/2020

When two hair industry veterans come together to create a new color line, you just know it’s going to be good.

Launching January 2021, Color Space, is a new scientifically-driven color line started by Ray Civello, who founded Civello salons, and Lupe Voss, an award-winning hair artist and educator. Offering cutting-edge products, an immersive education program, and profitable business model, the line is set on changing that the way that colorists and clients experience color, according to a press release.

When it comes to creating their products and curriculum, Color Space relies on industry-leading research. In fact, they commissioned an in-depth color study with the world renowned color science department at the University of Milano, led by leading academic, Professor Alessandro Rizzi, to uncover common challenges faced by everyday stylists and colorists, like color visibility and the lack of color precision benchmarks. Thanks to their findings, the Color Space team was able to develop a stacked product line-up featuring permanent color lines, both with ammonia and ammonia-free formulations, powder lighteners, developers, a bonding and restructuring treatment, and an oxidization stopper and cuticle sealant.

In an effort to decrease waste, the brand will be offering refills with select products as well as stocking their formulas in bigger tubes —120ml to be exact. Not to mention, the brand will employ efficient shipping and a strong digital sales force to reduce their overall emissions and aid in reducing pollution.

“We believe in doing business differently,” said Civello, who’s launching the brand under his beauty incubator, Collective Beauty Brands. “To us, we are embracing a holistic approach, ranging from developing innovative offerings to looking at how we can help salons maximize their profitability. Weathering the challenging times of 2020, like never before the industry needs to band together and support each other in meaningful ways — a movement Color Space is excited to help influence.”

Beyond their product offerings, the brand is heavily focused on transforming color education to improve the coloring experience for both the stylist and the client. To achieve this goal, Color Space has built out a robust education program overseen by Voss.

“I’ve always been an advocate for how crucial education is to color excellence,” said Voss. “Education is the beating heart of Color Space. With CS Ed., we reimagined education with the necessary tools and technologies to give creators consistent results. From the foundational element of how we see color, to first-ever fully calibrated color products, our resources paired with our educational program will enable salon professionals to overcome the problems identified by Professor Rizzi and his team at the University of Milano. We won’t stop until creators get consistent positive results for their clients every single time.”

Color Space’s full product line will be available for purchase beginning January 11th, 2021.
