Lauren Palmer Smith on How to Recreate Camila Mendes’ Perfectly Polished Met Gala Bob

05/13/2026

“Masters of the Universe” star, Camila Mendes, stepped onto the Met Gala ’26 red carpet with a bob that we can’t stop thinking about, styled by celebrity hairstylist Lauren Palmer Smith.

Using Chris McMillan’s products, including the newly launched Glassy Smooth Hair Oil, Palmer Smith tells The Tease they wanted to have “just a really classic, really polished, beautiful bob that was close to her head, that had a little bit of shape and movement at the end that wasn’t going to read as too harsh or too subverted.”

Read on for the exact steps she took.

Get the Look:

  1. “So for this look, we blow-dried in the The Glassy Smooth Blowdry Spray and I saturated every section thoroughly to ensure the best product distribution. And I used a one-inch round brush to smooth everything.
  2. After I finished, I would use The Major Hairspray, and hairspray at the roots to end, and would use flat clips to gather the section and make sure that the roots laid flat and that the ends still laid in a natural way. And I did this throughout the head.
  3. Then, I went back in because we wanted to attach a gorgeous necklace that became a headpiece. I took sections from just above the temple to the base of the crown and French-braided about an eighth-of-an-inch section on both sides. This created a good base for pinning the jewelry-link part of the headpiece. After securing it, I laid the hair over the top, used the gorgeous lightweight  Glassy Smooth Hair Oil as a final finish, and sent her on her way.”
