Big news for parents and Disney adults, the Descendants franchise is officially set to expand with the release of “Wicked Wonderland” on streaming at the end of this week. And actress-comedian Awkwafina has joined the star-studded cast as Chessy Cheshire, the daughter of the iconic Cheshire Cat from “Alice in Wonderland”!
For the Premiere, Awkwafina wore a blue, tea-length-adjacent dress, perhaps in homage to the classic film, but her hair by frequent collaborator Kylee Heath was very modern — set in unfussy, cool-girl waves.
Heath tells The Tease, “Awkwafina’s dress for the premiere was a beautiful dusty blue, so we wanted the hair to complement its soft silhouette.” She adds, “The goal was something romantic with an effortless feel — lived-in texture that still looked polished and elevated. We also wanted high shine.” Keep reading to see how Heath brought the look together, including the exact products she used.

- “For the best foundation, I recommend washing the hair with KERATÎME by Schwarzkopf Deep Repair Shampoo and Conditioner before styling. They leave the hair feeling healthy, hydrated, and silky, which creates the perfect base for soft, touchable texture.
- I started on damp hair by spraying KERATÎME Deep Repair Detangling Treatment throughout from roots to ends, then worked a small amount of KERATÎME Bonding Oil through the mid-lengths and ends for softness, shine, and protection. I created a center part and blow-dried the hair with a round brush, building subtle volume at the roots while keeping the finish smooth and polished.
- Once the hair was completely dry, I created texture by alternating between a 1-inch and a 1¼-inch curling iron. I curled the front pieces away from the face, then worked my way around the head, alternating both the direction of each wave and the size of the iron. Mixing the curl pattern creates a more natural, dimensional finish so the waves don’t fall into one uniform shape.
- The best part about this technique is that it doesn’t have to be overly precise. After curling the face-framing sections away from the face, you can vary the direction and iron size throughout the rest of the head. The one thing I do keep consistent is the size of each section. I always match the width of the section to the size of the curling iron I’m using. If I’m using a 1-inch iron, I take 1-inch sections. If I’m using a 1¼-inch iron, I take 1¼-inch sections. Matching the section size to the barrel helps each curl heat evenly and gives you a more consistent result, while alternating the curl direction and barrel size creates that effortless, romantic movement.”
