Lorraine Dublin Shares How She Created This ‘Mother’ of an Updo for Michaela Coel

At the London premiere of the hotly-anticipated “Mother Mary,” star Michaela Coel, well, mothered.

Wearing a whimsical but equally sexy Loewe gown — straight from the runway, mind you — Coel’s hair, by frequent collaborator Lorraine Dublin, was pulled back into a sleek bun, accentuating her unreal angles. It was everything.

Dublin tells The Tease, “For Michaela’s Mother Mary premiere look, I wanted the hair to feel polished but still effortless.” To achieve the sleek but not severe style, Dublin used a suite of amika products.

Read on for the exact picks and techniques Dublin utilized below.

Get the Look:

  1. “I started by prepping with the Wizard Silicone Free Detailing Primer to create a smooth, workable base.
  2. Then I layered in Superfruit Star Lightweight Hair Styling + Heat Defense Oil to bring out that beautiful shine and softness without weighing the hair down.
  3. To really refine the shape, I defined the edges using On Lock High Hold Hair Wax, which gave that sculpted, high-gloss finish.
  4. Finally, I set everything with Fluxus Touchable, Flexible Hold Hairspray so the style holds, but still moves naturally. It’s all about that balance between structure and fluidity.”
