“My Greatest Mentor is Me” A Conversation with Nubia Rezo

01/31/2022

If you haven’t heard of this week’s guest, where have you been? Jeffrey Lunnen talked with the icon that is Nubia Rezo. For those of you who may have been living under a rock, Nubia Rezo is a LatinX beauty brand founder and master hairstylist with over 40 years of experience in the haircare industry. Born and raised in Colombia, Nubia moved to the U.S. in 1975 where she began her decades-long career. As a young stylist, she was formally trained by a slew of well-respected hair educators like Goldwell, L’Oréal, Wella, Vidal Sassoon, DevaCurl, Ouidad, Aveda, Paul Sebastian, and Mazella & Palmer, which set the stage for her own success as a salon-owner, product formulator, and curly hair care educator.

Nubia joined Volume Up this week to tell us a bit more about herself, her salon, the Rezo cut, Rezo Haircare, and Rezo Academy. She explains to us her struggles as she worked to get into the industry, but also explains her greatest triumphs and mentors. With hair texture finally being highlighted in the industry, Nubia gives the inside details about the Rezo cut and what it can do for curly hair.

“I believe that I was a hairdresser the minute I came to this earth because the first Barbie, I adapted to my own style. I changed her clothes. And I did her hair. So pretty much those hands and that imagination was always there from the very beginning.”

“You know what, as a  Latina woman, that I am very much for empowering women. I feel that we deserve that position in the world. We’re strong. We can multitask.”

“I do believe very strongly that when you can get from the universe, it is your duty as a person, as a professional, to give back.”

Don’t miss out on hearing Nubia tell us her favorite products from Rezo Haircare. We definitely need to go out and buy them right now!
