Pink Hair Is Everywhere Again — Bianca Hillier Explains Her Take on the ‘Trend’

06/11/2025

Hard to call pink hair a trend when it’s literally never not with us, but it is trending again. As in, right now. Everyone from Addison Rae to Labubu is experimenting with the color that manages to simultaneously signal punk and polish.

The Tease tapped LA-based celebrity hairstylist Bianca Hillier to walk us through how she’s helping clients to go pink this summer. Read on for her recommendations including her go-to shades.

The Tease: Why do you think the appeal of pink hair is so enduring?

Bianca Hillier: Fantasy colors used to have a bad reputation for rebellious kids with no eye for high fashion. In 2025, it’s clear that boho and grunge are back in the most chic and elegant way. Pink hair has come a long way and is never a bad idea — definitely on trend.

There’s seemingly always an appetite for super bold, all-over pink, but we know that isn’t for everyone. What about the client with commitment issues — how can they embrace pink?

Hillier: For a client who isn’t ready to fully commit to pink, I make a custom pastel pink that is subtle, but still bright and show stopping. It’s a good way to ease into a fantasy color because it fades quite quick and their blonde is back in action. A custom pastel pink is the perfect temporary change and exactly what someone who is on the fence about a big change needs.

What’s key to getting the base just right for pink?

Hillier: The key to getting pinks just right is starting with a blonde canvas. Keep in mind the darker the blonde the more warm the pink will be. If possible it is always best to start with a platinum blonde so the hue of pink is true to the formula. Keeping the hair health is also a massive part of achieving the proper pink, Virtue Labs Colorkick in my mixture is a little extra insurance that the hair will stay in tact and that the integrity is not compromised.

Proper at home care is a huge factor as to how the hair strands will hold onto the pink color molecules. Prepping the hair prior to color services is always a must and following up after color services is just as important. Virtue Labs Healing Oil is an easy staple to keep in your regiment for hydration and anti fade daily.

Which pink shades do you swear by?

Hillier: My hands down favorite fantasy colors are by Pravana. Pretty in Pink is the most incredible pastel pink that fades well yet still gives enough pigment to show true to tone. Maria Nila has a wide selection of color conditioners, Pink Pop is a go to. This is perfect for clients who want less of a fade and prefer pink longevity.

If there were one celeb or client you could take pink, who would it be?

Hillier: I have quite a few celebrities I would want to colour pink! Celebrities that would look killer in a ‘Bianca Colour’ custom pink would be Sabrina Carpenter, Emily Alyn Lind, Delilah Belle, Lucky B Smith but most of all the basketball legend Dennis Rodman… pink is such a unique color because it has the flexibility of being a warm or cooler tone. With my client Diplo we play around with warmer pinks when he is more tan and cooler tones when he hasn’t been in the sun as much — this way it can compliment his eye and skin tone with the pink.

Anything else our readers need to know?

Hillier: When using thermal styling tools be sure they have a heat adjuster because it will strip out the color quick! Heat protectant before any thermal styling is extremely important to prevent fading, especially when working with pink hair.
