Rosette-Inspired Hair is in Full Bloom This Spring

03/22/2023

Everything’s coming up roses, or should we say rosettes, this spring. Across the runways, red carpets, and the street style set, pretty floral appliques that range from subtle to eye-catching have been popping up everywhere. Now, it seems that fashion’s obsession with the delicate rose detail has finally found its way over to hair and we couldn’t be more excited.

While florals aren’t exactly a new concept for spring (cue Meryl Streep’s iconic line in The Devil Wears Prada), what is novel is how they are being incorporated into hair this season. Rosettes are incredibly versatile and wearable and can be used as beautiful hair accessories or to fully inspire a stunning updo, like say, a rose bun.

With warmer days ahead of us, why not take a second to stop and smell the roses—and maybe consider adding them to your next hair look while you’re at it. To help you out, we rounded up a few of our favorite rosette–inspired hairstyles to serve as inspiration. Ahead, take a look at four different hair looks that are totally worth trying this spring and beyond.

Rose-Inspired Wet Waves

Lizzo brought major flower power to the 2023 Grammys with this floral-inspired wet look moment. For the big event, her hairstylist Shelby Swain created retro wet waves, with a single swirl of her on the singer’s forehead. She finished the look off by pinning a single orange rose behind Lizzo’s hair. Speaking on the inspiration behind Lizzo’s hair look, Swain told Byrdie, “Lizzo’s look was inspired by the intricate beauty and detail of the flowers that illuminated her face and the vibrant color of her beautiful gown. I wanted to create a romantic, elegant hairstyle that complimented her bold beauty.”

Rosette Adorned Ponytail

When it comes to rosette hair accessories, Sandy Liang makes some of the best ones around. The label’s current Spring 2023 collection features a variety of rosette embellished pieces, like their Corsage Hair Elastic ($88.00), which are perfect for dressing up even the simplest of ponytails. You can wear a single hair elastic at the base of your ponytail or double them up to make a statement.

Sculpted Rosette Updo

Megan Stalter took rosette hair for a red carpet spin at the 2023 Golden Globes. Her hairstylist Clayton Hawkins created a gorgeous ‘60s-inspired updo with rosette-detailing that he told Byrdie was “over the top and joyful”.

Rose Bun

During Christian Siriano’s Fall 2023 runway show at New York Fashion Week, models were sent down the runway sporting pretty rose-inspired buns designed by lead hairstylist Lacy Redway. A fun twist on the classic chignon, Redway’s buns replicated a delicate rosebud with layers and layers of “petals”, as she told Allure
