Earlier this month, the Professional Beauty Association (PBA) distributed essential tools and supplies totaling more than $100k to help beauty professionals rebuild their livelihoods and resume their work after the devastating California wildfires. These Beauty Relief Kits contain essential items for licensed professionals to get back to serving their clients.

SOS Beauty hosted the distribution event to help nearly 100 licensed beauty professionals at its Beverly Hills offices February 3rd. Those impacted had the opportunity to select items such as hair dryers, flat irons, curling irons, clippers, brushes, color supplies and other professional tools to help get them back to work.

“When I got home, I just started crying. What PBA and its partners are doing for the community is a blessing,” said Jennifer Jackson, a hairstylist who received a kit. “Losing my kit in the fires was so hard because it took me years to build and it was expensive. Now, I can go back to work.”

“These kits are a crucial part of our ongoing efforts to assist those affected by this crisis. We are deeply grateful for the unwavering support from our members, partners, and sponsors, whose contributions have made this relief effort possible,” said Leslie Perry, Executive Director of PBA. (Editor’s note: Perry was on site for the February 3rd event and actively distributed the Beauty Relief Kits herself!) She added, “The beauty industry has always been resilient, and its strength truly shines when we come together to help one another in times of need.”

“You absolutely can’t imagine the pure joy you brought today to so many. I’ve been through many times in my life where many people were so kind and generous under many different circumstances, but I have never been treated the way you guys treated us,” said Marice Egan, a Palisades hairstylist. “Honestly we will never forget it. Thank you again for your hard work and kindness.”

Pros who were unable to pick up a Beauty Relief Kit on Feb. 3rd will have another opportunity during Premiere Anaheim on Feb. 23rd and 24th. For more information on obtaining a kit at Premiere Anaheim, please submit a request here.

PBA extends a special thanks to SOS Beauty Group, Michael Shaun Corby and its valued partners and members, including: Alter Ego Italy, amika, Bellami, DePasquale Salon Systems, EVO, Framar, Fromm, ghd, Hattori Hanzo, Helen of Troy, JPMS, Oligo, Robanda, Salon Service Group, Sam Villa, Wahl and many others who have contributed to the Disaster Relief Fund and the Beauty Relief Kits.

Paul Mitchell never ceases to amaze us with their new innovations, particularly when it comes to their styling tools. The professional hair styling brand recently introduced three new tools as part of its Neuro+ Collection—the Neuro Dry+, Neuro Curl+, and Neuro Style+—that are designed to elevate your blow-drying, curling, and styling experience. As these tools are equipped with advanced NeutraHeat™ Technology, they are able to deliver consistent, even heat while styling, ensuring that stylists can achieve fast, healthy-looking results with minimal heat damage. The Neuro Dry+ has already emerged as a fast favorite in the hairstyling community. Not only did it sell out as soon as it launched with hair pros, but it was also the #1 SKU sold at CosmoProf during the month of May.

To learn more about this incredible trio of styling tools, The Tease connected with Paul Mitchell Artistic Director Paula Peralta, who has firsthand experience using them in the salon and on her many travels. Here, we chat about the Neuro tools’ unique features, the exciting styling possibilities that they offer, and her pro tips for heat styling. Keep scrolling for her incredible insights.

The Tease: Paul Mitchell recently just launched three new heat tools (the Neuro Dry+, Neuro Curl+, and Neuro Style+) as part of their Neuro+ Collection. What do you find most exciting about the brand’s newest heat styling innovations?

Paula Peralta: One of the most exciting things about the Neuro innovation is the ease and versatility! A blow dryer that folds up for travel, a curling iron that can create waves, ringles, or a blowout effect, and a smoothing iron that smoothes and styles. Having three tools that do it all is a game-changer!

A closer look at the Neuro Dry+. Image courtesy of Paul Mitchell

Of the three tools in the Neuro+ Collection, which do you find yourself reaching for most often and why?

Peralta: The Neuro Dry+ is permanently attached to my hand! The diffuser attachment is one of my favorites and creates perfect curls. The comb attachment makes braid prep or silk presses a breeze! The adjustable temperature and air flow has reduced my blowout time behind the chair. Not to mention, the folding feature makes on-the-go styling a breeze! Anyone that picks it up is just as obsessed as I am!

When it comes to heat tools, what factors tend to be the most important  for hairstylists? And in what ways do you think the new Neuro+ tools cater to those specific needs with their distinct features?

Peralta: One of the most important factors is adjustable settings. The Neuro+ settings make these tools perfect for every hair texture, formation, and desired hairstyle.

A closer look at the Neuro Style+. Image courtesy of Paul Mitchell

All of the Neuro+ tools use NeutraHeat™ Technology in the form of a neutralizing ion generator and SmartSense+ Microchip. Can you give us a little insight into how this technology works and what key benefits are for stylists who use these tools?

Peralta: The SmartSense+ Microchip monitors the temperature and adjusts almost instantly so you can move through high density hair without having to wait for the iron to recalibrate or reheat, we are talking high-tech efficiency!

In your opinion, how have the new Neuro+ tools helped to elevate the overall heat styling experience for you and your clients?

Peralta: The Neuro+ Collection is incredible for everyone because you can adapt and adjust based on texture, density, or desired end result. Clients are loving the versatility of looks from just three tools.

Can you share a pro tip for using the Neuro+ tools to ensure the best results when working with clients?

Peralta: Maintaining the integrity of the hair is the priority. I alway recommend using a thermal protectant like Neuro Prime HeatCTRL Blowout Primer or Neuro Protect HeatCTRL Iron Thermal Protection Hairspray before any heat styling. Also, be sure to start with a lower heat setting and work up—you would be surprised how much magic you can create at lower temperatures!

Lastly, what have been some of your favorite hairstyles to create currently with the new Neuro+ tools?

Peralta: Quannah Chasinghorse’s braids and soft waves for the Met Gala were created with the Neuro Dry+ and Neuro Curl+. The barrel of the Curl+ is the perfect size and length to create soft texture on long hair. In the salon, I love the Neuro Curl+ because the adjustable tension control allows me to create the popular undone texture that my Los Angeles long haired clients loved—we call them “cool girl waves.”

If you’re interested in purchasing the new Neuro+ tools, they are available for purchase in limited quantities at pro.paulmitchell.com. And for all things Paul Mitchell, be sure to follow @paulmitchell and @paulmitchellpro on Instagram.

“I’ve never considered myself a braider, per se, but I’ll braid [Quannah] until my fingers fall off,” is what Paul Mitchell Artistic Director Paula Peralta wrote about her most recent collaboration with model-activist Quannah ChasingHorse for the Met Gala on Instagram. For last night’s red carpet, Peralta embraced “braids, beads and ethereal beauty.”

As a salon owner who travels the world sharing her expertise and educating fellow salon professionals, Paula is able to personally talk about why color is so important to a salon’s bottom line and what a color brand MUST do for your salon and services.

While it is important for brands to be constantly innovating, they can not be the only ones to innovate. It is vital for stylists to continue the innovation in their salon to make sure it  is up-to-date and in the know for the best client experience. While changing brands or adding products to your product line up can be scary, it is essential to be able to grow your salon and push forward.

This fall, John Paul Mitchell Systems extended their demi permanent dye collection with five new red shades. From copper to chocolate cherry, there is no avoiding the gravity of the red hair shade trend this year. The new collection is perfect for anyone hoping to experiment with these styles, but may be weary of the commitment of permanent hair color.

Often, semi or demi permanent hair dyes can feel limiting in terms of color selection. Most brands only carry one red tone, and this tone is often not a match for everyone nor does it work on all natural colors. JMPS is solving this issue with their extensive range of new red shades. They now offer a 7NC Natural Copper, 6C Copper, 6RR Red Red, 6RB Red Brown, and 4RB Red Brown. This ensures there will be a product for many consumers, whether you have color treated light blonde hair or are a medium-dark level brunette.

JMPS encourages mixing different tones of demi-permanent dye in order to achieve your client’s dream look. These dyes are also a great tool for blending and hiding gray hairs. The products are also free of ammonia and MEA, and are much more gentle on the hair compared to more permanent dyes.

In order to use the dyes, determine the starting level shade of the hair you are working with. Then, mix 1:1 with Paul Mitchell Processing Liquid. Leave on for 5 to 20 minutes, and then rinse, shampoo, and condition using Paul Mitchell Color Protect Post Color Shampoo and Conditioner.
