The Day of the Dead Inspo You Need from Latinx Makeup Artists

10/24/2020

Each year, Day of the Dead, or rather, el día de muertos, gives the Latinx community an opportunity to celebrate their deceased family members. To honor their lost loved ones, Latinx folks often don cultural garb, floral accessories and incredible makeup that typically resembles skulls (or calaveras). Rather than appropriate, let’s appreciate (and amplify) the talent and skill of Latinx makeup artists who rep their culture.

Here are 12 día de muertos-inspired looks that you have to see to believe.

Rainbows & Roses

This look from Instagram user @el_arte_jimenez combines rainbows with florals to create fun but still intriguing glam. The glitter shadow and Jack Skellington paint give the makeup a more playful vibe for the holiday.

A Vision in Red

Thanks to makeup artist Catrinas Contemporaneas, this detailed look stuns from head to toe. The intricate face paint is incredible, and the big gown and hat are the perfect pair. We’re living for this look!

Under Candlelight

The crown in this look may be extravagant, but the real standout is the makeup from @paulina_clothing. The glittery paint paired with gemstones perfectly complement the headpiece.

Quinceañera Queen

Another iconic día de muertos glam moment is this quinceañera inspired look from cindy__flores. The light-colored gown lets the makeup take center stage, and the matching details between the paint and the flowers are everything.

Black & White with a Dash of Red

This entire photoshoot dedicated to día de muertos shows the beauty of the holiday. While the glam from makeup artist @stylesbyjean isn’t super colorful, the pop of red really brings the whole look together.

A Subtle Take

Instagram user @_domakeup went for a more muted look here, forgoing the classic white paint typically seen during the celebration. However, the added jewels give this look an elevated feel without going overboard.

Passionate Paint

This look, again from @stylesbyjean, is everything! Each color and line painted compliments one another, serving serious cultural love. Not to mention, the details in the body paint are breathtaking.

Cultured Crystals

This crystal-filled glam from makeup artist @jordanliberty is seriously impressive. The blending of the colors, along with the geometric details, take this look from basic to brilliant.

A Rosy Moment

The creativity that goes into these looks is astounding! These rosy pink shades and negative space details from @makeupiridian prove that the possibilities are endless when it comes to celebrating el día de muertos.

Daring & Defined

Another different take on the skeleton look, this time from makeup artist @lora_arellano. The small details are perfectly placed, and the dark, defined features look gorgeous!

A Golden Masterpiece

Another beautiful look from @el_arte_jimenez! The gold and red colors pair together perfectly, and the wispy vines paint a beautiful picture with depth and detail.

Prideful Portrait

Last but not least, this culture filled look from @livierveralopez is so impressive and realistic that we can’t help but stare. There really are no rules when it comes to día de muertos makeup, and we’re obsessed!
