As far as hair color trends go, the copper hair trend is one with some serious staying power. Since first coming on the hair scene a couple years ago, the copper hue has continued to maintain its dominance, trending season after season in new iterations.
This time around, it seems the latest version of the hair trend is taking inspiration from two natural phenomenons of the sun: the sunrise and sunset. Just a few weeks ago celebrity hairstylist and Wella Global Ambassador Nikki Lee transformed Emma Robert’s locks to a stunning “sunset red” shade. And now Lee has carried out yet another incredible red hair transformation with Jennifer Love Hewitt.
Hewitt recently traded in her shoulder-length brown hair with blonde highlights for a beautiful coppery red with balayage with the help of Lee. The 9-1-1 star couldn’t help but share her new look on Instagram, in a post-salon selfie. “I have wanted to be red for so long,” Hewitt wrote in the caption. “@nikkilee901 crushed this color! She named my color Sunset Lover🌅.”
In her own post on Instagram, Lee shared behind-the-scenes snaps and details showing how she achieved Hewitt’s new copper hue. For those curious, Lee created Hewitt’s gorgeous “sunset lover” shade using Wella Professionals Koleston Perfect Permanent Hair Dye throughout the star’s base, mids, and hairline. After achieving a balanced color, she applied Wella Professionals Blondorplex Lightner at the shampoo bowl and then glossed it with the Wella Professionals Color Touch Demi-Permanent Hair Dye to seal the color and increase the vibrancy. To give Hewitt’s look some added fullness and length, Lee added in some Great Lengths extensions, before running some Wella Professionals Ultimate Smooth Miracle Hair Oil Serum through the actress’ hair for a boost of smoothness and shine.
According to Lee, copper hues like Hewitt’s new color are shaping up to be huge this summer.
“Summer’s hottest trend is definitely copper red,” she said. “Chic and sexy at the same time, this color makes every woman feel her best. Jennifer’s been wanting to color her hair this color for the longest time, but work wouldn’t allow her to make the big change. We finally found the perfect window of time to make the transformation and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”
