On August 21st, VerMeer took to Instagram to share the arrival of the Crossover Thinning Usuba Scissors in collaboration with Japanese shears brand, Mizutani. For those who don’t know, last year VerMeer began a partnership with Mizutani, making her the first woman to design and develop a line of haircutting scissors made specifically for women.

The news comes at an exciting time for the Minnesota-based stylist as today she not only celebrates her birthday but, the anniversary of her original “Crossover” scissors.

“Guess what’s today?! The one year anniversary of WHITNEY VERMEER x MIZUTANI CROSSOVER SCISSORS!” she wrote. “We’ve received an unbelievable amount of support about the CROSSOVER that we’ve extended the series! INTRODUCING: CROSSOVER THINNING USUBA.”

The Crossover Thinning Usuba scissors are an extension of her popular “Crossover” series. They were designed for precision haircutting and provide an increased sense of stability as well as better handleability. Just like its predecessor, the “Crossover”, these scissors come in two different sizes: CR 1 for free handling and CR 2 for more precise handling. In addition to offering variations in handling, the thinning scissors also offer both a left-handed and right-handed model, regular as well as reverse thinning, and 125 (15-20%) and 225 (15-25%) cut ratios.
