Interview with Marylle Koken
Born and raised in Holland and then schooled in France, Marylle Koken was only 19 when she came to Los Angeles. As the daughter of a hairdresser, her passion drove her to be the best. She quickly rose to prominence within the industry and grew a roster of devoted celebrity clientele, including Jack Osbourne, Kimberly Stewart, Paris Hilton, Morrissey from The Smiths, Nine Inch Nails lead guitarist Robin Finck, as well as Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
Koken salon, The Harlot Salon, is located on Melrose Avenue, one of Los Angeles’s most famous destinations.
Outside of the salon, her talent has been tapped to lead multiple projects, including platform education, product launches, editorial collections, red carpet styling, runway shows at LA & NY Fashion Week, advertising campaigns for Sebastian Professional, and make-up lines such as MAC Cosmetics.
A four-time NAHA finalist and a two-time Wella TrendVision Awards winner, Koken has been featured in NYLON Magazine, Style Caster, and Refinery 29. Recently, she was named Sebastian Professional’s Los Angeles Creative Ambassador.
