The 2025 Met Gala’s theme was “Tailored for You,” and there was no one who represented that spirt better than country star, and Beyoncé collaborator, Shaboozey. The “Sweet Honey Buckiin” singer wore custom Robert Wun couture, a dandy-inspired black moiré suit, completed with turquoise beaded chains and thousands of crystals. His trademark wicks were topped by a black moiré covered disc by Awon Golding. His mustache, curled at the ends, the perfect complement to his turquoise grills.
The effect? Devilishly good. Otherworldly even.
The Tease got in touch with Shaboozey’s groomer, Coree Moreno, to talk all things hair, face and more. Scroll for our quick Q&A.
The Tease: Grooming means something a little different from pro to pro, You mention doing both ‘grooming’ and ‘complexion’ for Shaboozey. What did that entail for the Met Gala?
Coree Moreno: For me grooming is the small details the make a man’s features pop! But the goal is always to spot treat blemishes with a feather light hand, and really letting the natural skin come through.
Which products did you use for the look?
Moreno: Cantu sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner. Wicks aren’t meant to be product-filled and snatched. Wicks should be clean air dried under a dryer, with a hydrated scalp. So a non-drying shampoo is key so the natural moisture shines through.
Talk to us about the mustache — new for Shaboozey. Definitely giving dandy.
Moreno: So, knowing the artistic direction had components of dandyism, afro futurism and Shaboozey’s iconic southern/western flair. Knowing the look was simple yet detailed oriented, I knew I wanted to bring in something that’s an undeniable reference from the ‘Wild Wild West,’ and I think it aided in the storytelling of who he is along with the turquoise beading and grills.
What do you want The Tease readers to know?
Moreno: I want the tease readers to know that this year’s Met was special, it gave most traditional men a chance to explore fashion in a creative yet close to home way.
