The Most Exciting Hairstyles from the 2025 Met Gala

05/08/2025

With this year’s Met Gala theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebs and their teams drew inspiration from the book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, and iconic Black figures. Thankfully, for us, a lot of that energy translated to hair — bold, sculptural styles, braids, Afros, volume, texture and KISS CURLS…

Read on for the best of the 2025 Met Gala hairstyles according to our editors.

Aimee Lou Wood

Yes! That’s all. Gareth Bromell nailed it.

Alicia Keys

Two big looks for Ms. Keys by Nai’vasha Grace. The first, above, inspired by Grace Jones. The second, below, by Josephine Baker.

Angela Bassett

Soft curls, STRONG look by Randy Stodghill. An incredible Met Gala debut.

ASAP Rocky

Kiss curls were everywhere, including Rocky’s braids. Impressive, honestly.

Ayo Edebiri

Ayo Edebiri and her hairstylist Jacob Aaron proved that kiss curls and braids are a winning combo. Her slicked-back hairstyle featured cornrows at the nape of her neck and a rope-like bun.

Bad Bunny

Forever repping PR, Benito wore a pava by prada with a delicate kiss curl. His hair, slicked back by Ryan Austin for IGK, featured a literal twist.

Cardi B

Texture, come through! Volume?! SHAPE?! Tokyo Stylez delivered a look with göt2b products.

Chappell Roan

What you’d expect from Chappell at the Met? Hair is huge. Hair is great, let’s all thank Lacy Redway.

Charli XCX

Ego Nwodim

Nothing funny to say about how incredible Ego looks. This completely custom, sculptural hairstyle by Miles Jeffries for TRESemmé was inspired by IMAN. Jeffries took to IG and said, “I wanted it to be a love letter to my fellow Black hair artist specifically Black hair show (i.e. Bronner Brothers).” One of the night’s most daring and successful looks. Will be thinking about this forever!

Emma Chamberlain

Mega blonde spiky moment. Hair styling by Sami Knight, color by Anthony Vincent.

FKA Twigs

Louis Souvestre, Twigs’s hairstylist, calls the cut a “micro Chelsea.” We call it one of the night’s best hairstyles.

Gabrielle Union

Gab giving us 1940s realness thanks to Larry J Sims. So retro that it’s almost futuristic feeling.

Janelle Monae

Cornrows finished with visible white yarn by Nikki Nelms (for OLAPLEX) meant to match the stitching on Monae’s suit. The blue black color, new for the Met Gala, was made possible with Danger Jones products. Stunning!

Jazmine Sullivan

THE Jazmine Sullivan wearing a lace durag with her luscious curls spilling out for maximum drama. Hair by Dhairius Thomas.

Jenna Ortega

A gothy, wavy moment for Jenna Ortega by Cesar Deleon Ramirez for Rizos Curls.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Jodie Turner-Smith, ladies and gentlemen. Is she even real? Ursula Stephen created a hybrid pony, with Ouidad products, that was the perfect compliment to her Burberry hat.

Keke Palmer

It’s OUR girl, Keke Palmer. Kira Dior created a masterpiece, focusing on “on seamless blending, softness, and structure.”

Law Roach

A BIG departure from Law’s buss down look, we got a short blonde moment by Tai Simon for Bumble and bumble at this year’s Met Gala.

Leon Bridges

Leon by Lindsay Rogers was major. Sculptural and powerful!

Lisa

This updo (by Jang Hye-Yeon) and color (by Jacob Schwartz) signaled superstar.

Lizzo

A blonde moment that we didn’t see coming and absolutely needed. Shout out to Jared Henderson aka @jaystayready_ for this one!

Megan Thee Stallion

THIS is a sculptural hairstyle! Inspired by a specific hairstyle worn by Josephine Baker, longtime collaborator Kellon Deryck made it happen with T3 and Tangle Teezer tools plus some Glam Sculpt spray.

Miley Cyrus

A snatched ponytail braid by Bob Recine featuring Great Lengths extensions.

Natasha Lyonne

Big hair, absolutely do care. Natasha Lyonne teamed up with Vernon François for OLAPLEX and we have a whole mood.

Pamela Anderson

This cut is giving Joan of Arc. We are LOVING Lacy Redway’s take on the micro bang + bob trend.

Precious Lee

A supermodel blowout for Precious Lee just makes sense. Celebrity hairstylist Davontae’ Washington delivered “big, bouncy glam” with Dyson products.

Quinta Brunson

Quinta with the heavy bang and kiss curls! Hair by Karen Miller for Thank God it’s Natural (tgin).

Rihanna

A giant hat, a big ‘ol baby bump (baby #3!) and the most gorgeous fishtail-y braid by Yusef. No notes. Love everything!

Kiss curls, a forever long ponytail in twin braids AND a custom hair bow from remnant fabric —Ashanti Lation brought it! Lation used Shea Moisture and Dyson Pro products to make it happen.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Yes, she wore a hat for much of the event, but who cares. The hat was giving! And her hair by Chuck Amos for Pattern Beauty, was too! Worn in a slicked back bun, Amos gave her a stunning braided detail.

Valentina Ferrer

Valentina, working with Davey Matthew for milk_shake, was inspired by Veronica Lake for her Met Gala debut hairstyle. The peekaboo wave was the perfect amount of playful. ¡Felicidades equipo!

Venus Williams

Venus Williams with a SERVE! Araxi Lindsey gave us a hair moment for the ages with the Eco Style Braids and Beyond collection.

Whitney Peak

No one can top Naeemah Lafond and Whitney Peak. This hairstyle was the night’s best, hands down. Naeemah, working with OLAPLEX for the Met Gala said, “braiders are the tailors of the beauty world.” She’s right! The attention to detail, as well as the references which included Maasai warriors and modern-day Black men who rock cornrows, gave this hairstyle so much life.

Zoe Saldaña

A chin length bob showing off Zoe Saldaña’s razor sharp jawline was exactly the right choice by Mara Roszak for Olivia Garden and RŌZ Hair. TAILORING!
