If there’s one star that sent the Internet into a total frenzy with their hair look at the 2025 Met Gala, it’s Tyla.
The South African singer turned heads when she hit the red carpet in a white off-the-shoulder Jacquemus gown with pinstripe detailing. Her Met Gala ensemble was dazzling on its own, but when paired with her new buttery golden blonde hair, it made for a serious style statement.
For the annual soiree, the star was able to ditch her signature darker tresses for blonde locks that were perfectly sculpted into a curly blond pixie thanks to her hairstylist Yusef. He used hair from True Hair Company, Dyson Beauty hair tools, and OGX styling products to achieve the hair look.
Speaking on the inspiration for Tyla’s hairstyle, he said, “I was inspired by the fierce elegance of Black women from the 1930s and ‘50s—icons of the Harlem Renaissance like Jospehine Baker, Lena Horne, and especially Joyce Bryant. Joyce was the blueprint: bold, glamorous, and unapologetically provocative. Every sculpted wave and glossy finish in Tyla’s look was a tribute to that fearless spirit.”
The Tease was lucky enough to get all the details straight from Yusef on how he crafted Tyla’s curly blonde pixie for the Met Gala. Keep scrolling for all the details.

- We started with a fresh cleanse using OGX Bond Protein Repair Shampoo & Conditioner ($5.00 each) to create a clean base for styling.
- After thoroughly washing and drying the natural hair, we began the process of installing her Custom Colored True Hair Company 18’ Sandy Lacefront Wig, ($1,150.00 – $1,600.00; 18’ – 26’ final price determined by length, shade, texture, etc.), ensuring a seamless blend.
- To sculpt her waves and enhance her definition, he applied the OGX Bond Protein Repair Sealing Serum ($10.00) and set the hair in a classic roller set to shape the figure waves.
- Yusef then used the Dyson Supersonic r™ Professional Hairdryer on medium heat with the diffuser attachment to set the waves gently and evenly.
- Once the curls were set, he used the OGX Bond Protein Repair Heat Protectant Spray ($10.00) to add moisture and prep the hair for soft, touchable curls.
- After styling, he locked everything in place with the OGX Flexible Hold Hairspray ($10.00), ensuring the waves held without stiffness.
- For the final touch, a few mists of OGX Bond Protein Repair 3-in-1 Oil Mist ($10.00), gave the hair a luminous shine and natural movement.
- En route to the red carpet, Yusef used the Dyson Corrale™ hair styler straightener for all the finishing touches to ensure every detail was flawless before Tyla stepped out. He topped it all off with the Parfums de Marly Valaya Hair Perfume, ($93.00).
