Celebrity Hairstylist Justin Toves-Vincilione Shares the 6 Fall Hair Trends You Need to Watch Out For

10/20/2023

With fall now in full swing, your clients are likely itching for a hair refresh. The good news is that there are so many exciting new hair trends taking this season by storm to help guide their next big hair transformation. If you’re curious which silhouettes and hues should be on your radar for all your future salon appointments, we’ve totally got you covered!

The Tease was lucky enough to connect with Authentic Beauty Concept Advocate and celebrity hairstylist Justin Toves-Vincilione to find out which hair colors, cuts, and styles are expected to be in high demand this fall. Keep scrolling for his top trend picks.

Golden Apricot Blonde

As shades of red continue to trend everywhere in the hair world, golden apricot blonde is one hair color that needs to be on everyone’s radar. This pastelized version of copper is an easy way for blondes to dip their toes into the red hair trend or give redheads an opportunity to see if blondes really do have more fun. “This color is perfect for anyone who is already blonde, can easily lift to blonde, or is willing to bleach their hair light enough to take on this faint pastel tone,” Toves-Vincilione says. “It’s a perfect blend between natural and vibrant and doesn’t come off as loud or flashy.”

Geode Hair

Once popular during the mid-2010s, geode hair is set to make an epic comeback this fall. Like its name implies, geode hair emulates the colors and patterns of a geode (for those who don’t know, we’re talking about those rocks full of really beautiful glittery crystals). The iridescent jewel tones—like amethyst, sapphire, emerald, and lilac—that make up this hair color pair really well blondes, especially light blondes. “On top of any light blonde shade of hair, this trend is created by placing pastel jewel tones as an overlay in a pattern that best emulates a geode crystal,” says Toves-Vincilione. In order to keep the colors looking bright, Toves-Vincilione suggests maintaining your clients’ geode hair with the Authentic Beauty Concept Glow Cleanser, Glow Conditioner, and Glow Mask.

Color Blocking

According to Toves-Vincilione, we can all expect to see lots of color blocking this fall. “Color blocking is a hair color technique that creates large pops of lightness in certain areas. It’s like a peek-aboo, but we’re putting it on full display,” Toves-Vincilione says. “This hair color trend makes it easy to feature multiple fall colors while making a bold statement.” Color blocking is perfect for anyone wanting to be a bit more experimental with their hair this fall, but isn’t ready to totally commit to a complete color overhaul. However, Toves-Vincilione cautions that this look does typically involve bleach (depending on the desired end result), so you’ll definitely want to consult with your client to make sure they’re a good candidate for this look and its process.

Intricate Braids

While braids are never truly out of style, Toves-Vincilione predicts that we’ll be seeing a lot of intricate braiding styles trend this season. “Whether it’s cornrows with unique designs, classic braids with feed-in hair for volume, or the viral Flip-Over Fulani braids, we can count on braids having yet another moment this fall,” he says. The beauty of this trend is that there are so many ways in which you can plait and weave hair so the styling possibilities for your clients are endless.

Sliced Bob

According to Toves-Vincilione, bobs will continue to be as cool as ever, especially the sliced bob. “This haircut is similar to a blunt bob, but left even chunkier on the ends to maximize the illusion of volume and density,” he explains. “It makes a huge statement with its strong, blunt shape and dense ends.” While any hair type can pull this cut off, individuals with thick hair are especially well-suited for this look. As for styling this cut? Toves-Vincilione suggests a couple spirits of the Authentic Beauty Concept Airy Texture Spray as a final styling step for added pliable volume.

Birkin Bangs

Birkin bangs were all the rage this past summer and are expected to be even more popular this fall. Best described as a longer and wispier version of curtain bangs, these bangs are usually blended perfectly into face-framing layers and can often be left longer. “They are usually seen curled under in the center and flipping outward at the temples,” says Toves-Vincilione. When styling these bangs, he recommends applying Authentic Beauty Concept Amplify Mousse prior to blow drying with a round brush for added body, volume, and heat protection.
