SZA took to the Met Gala 2026 red carpet like a ray of welcome sunshine. There was a lot of yellow, including the singer-actress’s dress, glam and headpiece. Hairstylist Devante Turnbull didn’t have an easy go of it but he trumped in the end because her hair, set in soft curls, wasn’t overshadowed — at all.
Turnbull tells The Tease, “The headpiece did take me by surprise. Of course I saw sketches but seeing it in person was so beautiful and scary with the thought of messing anything up. A game plan was put into play the day before Met.”
He adds, “With the headpiece I negotiated what was best for keeping it secure and sturdy. An elastic band was previously added in the back and with the help of a few hairs pins on each corner everything was secured perfectly. It was very important we took our time placing this headpiece because it’s very fragile with real flowers and crystals.”

Get the Look:
- “Start by sectioning the hair and applying Curl Reactivator, smoothing it through with your fingers to evenly hydrate and prep the curls.
- Next, work a small amount of Curl Light Defining Cream through the mid-lengths and ends, scrunching to enhance definition while keeping the texture soft and flexible.
- Follow with a golf ball-sized amount of NEW Thickening High Drama Styling Foam, scrunching it into the hair to build volume and support without weighing curls down.
- Blow-dry using a diffuser, continuing the scrunching motion throughout to encourage shape and maintain the curl pattern.
- Once fully dry, lightly mist Thickening Dryspun Texture Spray Light, scrunching again to break up any stiffness and create that effortless, airy texture.
- Finish with Spray de Mode Flexible Hold Hairspray to lock in the look while maintaining natural movement.”
