The Diane von Furstenberg SS27 Runway Hair Is an Ode to the ’70s and ’80s Party Girl

09/11/2026

The Diane von Furstenberg SS27 girl likes to party. And this party girl wasn’t just any party girl, either. NYFW hair lead Mustafa Yanaz was especially inspired “by the character of this sexy, glamorous New York party girl from the ‘70s and ‘80s with an uptown meets downtown feeling.”

He shares that each of the runway hairstyles mixes two textures, “beautiful and structured on top and then kind of messy, with more movement on the bottom to capture the feel of a glamorous party girl who’s been out dancing.” Yanaz adds, “And of course I am inspired by Diane herself as a reference, because she was that person.” Scroll to see how he described the iconic designer backstage.

Keep reading for a detailed breakdown on each of the key looks (although there was one more that you have to see as well) directly from Yanaz, featuring the exact steps he took and Bumble and bumble. products used.

Get the Look: Soft Natural Curl

  1. “I start with Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer to add hydration and prep the hair for styling.
  2. I then apply Thickening High Drama Styling Foam from roots to ends and blow out the hair.
  3. I then add Thickening Spray on the top, part the hair in the center, curl and roll the hair to create great soft waves and pin in place.
  4. Then add Spray de Mode Flexible Hold Hairspray at the roots and curl just at the very top to add height.
  5. Tease the hair from mid-lengths down from underneath to add a bit of messy body that moves.”

Get the Look: Side Part

  1. “The second look is more of a done look with curls and waves like Sylvie Varton, the French singer from the ‘70s. For her prep I use Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer.
  2. Then I add Thickening High Drama Styling Foam just at the roots and layered Thickening Spray from roots to ends before blow-drying with a round brush.
  3. After the hair cools, we brush it out and then tease the ends from underneath to make the ends a little bit messy.
  4. Then we create a deep side part with a little lift at the root and setting with Spray de Mode Flexible Hold Hairspray. And what’s great is that Spray de Mode is so flexible, so you can redo it if you like.”

Get the Look: Ultra Glam, Voluminous Curls

  1. “For our third look, we are really embracing the girls’ natural texture to create this beautiful, ultra glamourous, voluminous curls. I prep with Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil Heat/UV Protective Primer.
  2. Then add Thickening High Drama Styling Foam to add grip.
  3. Dry the hair with a diffuser, allowing the natural hair to take shape. As I brush it out and at the top part, I pin it up to give it shape and shape it into a little bang situation with some separation.
  4. I set that with Spray de Mode Flexible Hold Hairspray which allows soft movement.”
