Foods, Flowers, Animals and More: All Things Hyper-Realistic Hair Accessories with Winona Irene

With the help of maximalism, the beloved ‘90s and early ‘00s hair accessories are back and evolving more than ever. Brands are offering over the top claw clips, oversized bows and puffy headbands, some of which have become staple accessories within the popular “coquette core” aesthetic.

From this, a whole new sub-category has emerged, combining the hyper-feminine hair accessories with more realistic items like food and animals. If you happen to see someone sporting an avocado or swan in their hair, now you know why!

Los Angeles based independent artist, Winona Irene, has taken this hyper-realism hair trend to a whole other level. Irene offers artfully designed home décor and accessories in playful yet delicate patterns making her hair adornments a piece of art rather than just an accessory.

By using original illustrations and focusing on quality production Irene creates products to share moments of comfort, gratitude, and humanity. Each one of her hair claws, clips, and barrettes is made from the eco-friendly material cellulose acetate. Since the hair accessories are cut from individual pieces of cellulose acetate and hand painted, they create different patterns and colors making no two hair clips exactly the same — each one is unique in its own way!

Irene’s hair claw serves as a versatile styling tool that can be used to create a stylish updo or to simply just keep hair out of the face. The clips come in a variety of shapes and sizes, all of which are perfect for any hair type or style. Many of Irene’s hair accessories are inspired by playful colors, shapes, and realistic items like animals and some of her favorite Asian foods. With Irene’s eco-friendly focus, you can not only look good but also feel good knowing that you’re doing your part to help the environment.
