Pattern play is an important element in runway fashion, mixing and matching things that shouldn’t go together but ultimately do, quite beautifully. For the Anna Sui Spring/Summer 2027 show, Garren, celebrity hairstylist and co-founder of R+Co and R+Co BLEU did the same thing with hair.
Garren explains, “We started looking through old Vogue magazines from the 60s and 70s, and we came up with this. I love the idea that it’s two textures. Everyone has been doing textured waves or all curls. Now we want to scramble it up, and say, why can’t you have wavy hair at the bottom and smooth hair at the top?”

He adds, “It is kind of ethereal, kind of period, but in a modern way.” We were lucky enough to catch up with Garren and team backstage and he explained the show’s hair design at length — watch that below.
As you can imagine, R+Co BLEU products were used to create the “angelic” delicate airiness and “boho-rocker” textured waves and controlled curls — all individual to each model. Something that emerged as a big trend this season.
Keep reading for the exact techniques and products used by Garren and team.

Get the Look:
- Prep the hair by starting with R+Co BLEU shampoo and conditioner.
- For finer hair, use Ingenious Thickening Crème through the lengths of hair for soft texture and volume.
- For curly hair, use Rebounce Hydrating Curl Glaze to separate and define the curls.
- At the root, apply Highest Volumizing Mousse, and then loosely blow dry the hair.
- Take a ½ inch curling iron and create two rows of curls in the front to resemble a fringe.
- Using a 3-barrel waving iron, crimp the bottom of the hair in sections to add texture.
- Once the hair is crimped and curled, use Cult Classic Flexible Hairspray to lift and air out strands, letting the curls fall naturally.
- Finish the look with Optical Illusion Smoothing Oil on the ends for shine.
