Did Slayyyter reference the VMAs’ late 90s, early aughts heyday with her glam at last night’s award show? We thought so. And then her makeup artist confirmed as much.
Frequent collaborator, Lilly Keys, says, “I wanted to lean into soft ’90s/Y2K frosted glamour — sexy and polished, but still effortless and a little cool. It’s a Y2K vibe with frosted pinks, smoky lilac eyes, glowing skin and a sexy pearlescent nude lip.”

Skin
- “MAC Studio Fix Fluid Foundation, applied in sheer layers so her complexion stays perfected but still looks like real skin. Soft sculpting through the cheekbones and temples, with a diffused rosy pink flush high on the cheeks. A subtle pearlescent highlight across the cheekbones, nose and cupid’s bow gives the skin that luminous, almost editorial sheen.”
Eyes
- “Using the MAC Connect In Colour Eyeshadow Palette: in Rose Lens, I washed Cute On Mute across Slayyyter’s lids for that icy lilac shimmer, then layered DM Me through the center for a pink/rose/gold reflect. Strong Connection was softly smoked into the crease, outer corners and underneath the lower lashes to give the eye that sultry, slightly grungy depth.
- I used a lighter shimmer in the inner corners to open up the eyes. Finish with softly smudged black liner (Kajal Excess Smokey Eyeliner), elongated at the outer corners, and lots of black mascara (Extended Play Gigablack Mascara) for a feline, lived-in lash.”
Brows
- “Soft, brushed-up and natural defined without looking overly filled or structured. Boy brow but impactful.”
Lips
- “A softly overdrawn cool nude-pink lip, with the Lipglazer Glossy Lip Liner diffused inward rather than looking too precise. I finished a with a frosted pearly pink-nude lipstick and a touch of gloss through the center for that unmistakable late 90s/early 2000s icy lip.”
