The Tease: How do you layer °7 with other styling products?
Tracey Cunningham: I always say start with the lightest product and work up. If you’re using a leave-in or a cream, apply that first on damp or dry hair, then mist the °7 over the top — it seals everything in and gives that gorgeous finishing shine. If you’re refreshing a second or third-day style, a light mist of water to reactivate, then °7, is all most clients need. It plays well with others. That’s the beauty of it.
How should application change for fine hair versus thick or coarse textures?
Cunningham: For my fine-haired clients, I tell them less is more — hold the bottle further away, do a light all-over mist, and avoid the roots entirely. Fine hair doesn’t need much to transform. For my clients with thick or coarse texture, I encourage them to section and really work it through, focusing on the mid-lengths and ends where dryness tends to live. The Bi-Phase formula is forgiving across textures, but application technique is everything.
Does °7 work differently on low-porosity versus high-porosity hair?
Cunningham: High-porosity hair drinks it up quickly and responds immediately — you see the shine transformation almost in real time. Low-porosity hair needs a little more coaxing; I recommend applying to hair that’s slightly warm from a diffuser or even from the sun, because the cuticle is slightly more open and receptive. The formula is intelligent enough to work with the hair’s natural state rather than forcing it, which is why it’s so versatile across porosity levels.
Which clients benefit most from this system?
Cunningham: The color-treated client who also heat styles. That is a client whose hair is under constant chemical and thermal stress, and every single benefit of this product — bond support, heat protection, shine, hydration — speaks directly to their needs. But honestly, I haven’t found a client it doesn’t help. Healthy hair needs maintenance too, and this is maintenance done beautifully.
