Matrix’s 4D Foilayage is the New Color Technique Your Blonde Clients Will Love

04/13/2022

Love high-contrast blonding, but don’t want to risk harming your client’s precious locks? Then Matrix’s newest color technique just might be the solution you’ve been searching for.

Meet 4D Foilayage.

Dreamed up by Matrix Brand Ambassador and celebrity hairstylist George Papanikolas, 4D Foilayage is a blonding technique focused on maximizing dimension in minimal time and with minimal damage. Through a combination of balayage, foils, and Pre-Bonded formulas, stylists are able to not only achieve a greater lift, but also beautifully blended dimension — even on clients with darker hair colors. And here’s the best part: it’s all achievable in just four easy steps!

“4D Foilayage is a quick, high-impact technique that my celebrity clients love,” said Papanikolas, who counts Hannah Jeter and Ellen Pompeo as clients. “I use Matrix Pre-Bonded formulas for all-around perfect, protect results!”

According to Papanikolas, using Matrix’s Light Master Pre-Bonded Lightener is key to 4D Foilayage success. “It lets me push the limits of my artistry without compromising the integrity of the hair,” he says. To tone, Papanikolas uses ultra-conditioning SoColor Sync Pre-Bonded Acidic and Alkaline Toners. “They give me the versatility of saturated or sheer color for an all-around perfect protected finish,” he says. He then finished with Matrix’s Unbreak My Blonde haircare system, which features citric acid to reinforce weakened bonds after coloring, leaving hair 3X stronger, shinier, and softer.

If you’re interested in trying out 4D Foilayage on your clients, below Papanikolas broke down his four, simple steps for using the technique, and even incorporated two time-saving secrets: foils and Matrix Pre-Bonded formulas.

  1. Grab your Light Master Pre-Bonded Lightener and choose your developer volume based on your client’s starting level.
  2. Section the hair strategically for maximum impact and 4D dimension.
  3. Backcomb each section, place it on a piece of foil and apply the lightener in a V-shaped pattern. Insulate your section and repeat!
  4. Apply your SoColor Sync Pre-Bonded Toner formulas for ultra-conditioned and shiny results!

Starting this month, the 4D Foilayage technique will be rolling out in Matrix salons. To learn more about this new color technique, be sure to follow @matrix on Instagram.
