Founded by sisters Lindsey and Alison Delaplaine, Plaine Products aims to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the beauty industry. What started as a conversation about how much plastic they had in their bathrooms quickly turned into a business plan and then into a leading brand in sustainability. By offering vegan, toxin-free and cruelty-free products in reusable aluminum containers, Plaine Products shows that there are sustainable alternatives to the beauty products we all currently use.

Making Good on its Promise

While other beauty brands implement great sustainable practices, Plaine Products is one of the few that was actually founded on the goal to eliminate the world’s need for single-use plastics. All Plaine Products are housed in aluminum bottles so they can be reused and more easily recycled. Plus, they use eco-friendly packaging made out of 95% post-consumer waste and 5% post-industrial waste.

Plaine Products also offers a refill program to help customers practice sustainability. It goes like this: once their products are running low, customers simply order a refill, and Plaine sends replacement bottles. The customer then transfers the pumps from their old bottles to the new ones. Then, they send the empty bottles back to Plaine so they can be reused. (Pro tip: customers can also set up a subscription with a 10% discount so that refills are sent automatically).

In addition to their sustainability practices, Plaine also ensures that their products are universal: safe for babies, children and even pets. One family switching over to Plaine Products will not only reduce the number of beauty products they’re purchasing, but it will also decrease the household’s production of plastic waste. Just imagine what could happen if millions of families made the switch!

Hair, Body & Face

Offering something great for hair, the body and the face, Plaine makes it easy to swap out your go-to beauty products with more sustainable options. Their most popular items are shampoo and conditioner, but they also offer body wash and lotion, along with face wash, moisturizer and toner. The brand recently even began producing hand sanitizer so that customers can practice sustainability while fighting against COVID-19.

Although all products are impressive, Plaine’s Beauty Oil is the real standout. It works well on the body and face, as well as hair and beards. This helps customers rely on just one product, again decreasing the need for multiple, and helping eliminate plastic waste.
