Nicki Minaj was right: we definitely “gotta keep an eye out for Selena!”
In a shocking move that literally no one saw coming — including all of her fans — the singer has traded in her signature brunette locks for a cool platinum blonde. Gomez took to the Rare Beauty Instagram account on Friday to reveal the stunning transformation in a mirror selfie, which she captioned: “New look. Need to pick new Rare Beauty lip and blush shades now.”
As expected, the Internet went into a frenzy over the Gomez’s new blonde ‘do, causing her to trend on Twitter worldwide, as an account pointed out:

As her fans surely already know, this isn’t the first time the “Love You to Lose Me” singer has gone blonde. Back in 2017, Gomez debuted a short blonde lob on the red carpet of the American Music Awards that came courtesy of colorists Nikki Lee and Riawna Capri of Nine Zero One salon in Los Angeles. According to a Instagram post that Capri shared at the time, it took them “nine hours, about 300 foils, and eight bowls of bleach”.
To bring her blond back after a four-year hiatus, the singer entrusted the duo once again. Lee shared a rare glimpse into the levels it took to achieve Gomez’s blonde in an IG post, revealing that she and Capri relied heavily on In Common and Joico products throughout the process. “The entire process took 200 foils, several bowls of bleach, and 8 hours of hair magic! Definitely worth it! Her hair looks and feels amazing!” Lee wrote in the caption.
It’s fair to say that bleach blonde hair is certainly having a moment. Gomez joins actress Lucy Hale and singer Billie Eilish as the latest celeb to join Team Blonde.
Needless to say, we’re obsessed with the star’s new hair and we can’t wait to see what the era of blonde Selena has in store for us!
