Australian Formula one driver Daniel Ricciardo made his Met Gala debut this year and celebrity groomer Jessica Ortiz brought out the polish.

The Tease was fortunate to have Ortiz share the step-by-step details on how she got Daniel red carpet ready using Andis tools. Keep scrolling for more.

  1. “Using the Andis beSPOKE trimmer, I started by tapering the sideburns and applying the clipper-over-comb technique to remove bulk around the temples.
  2. Then I cleaned up around the ears with the same beSPOKE trimmers; I love their design because it makes detailing around the ears less obstructed.
  3. The trimmer’s close blade allows the freedom of creativity. it can provide a very clean finish or, in my case, a natural shape around the neckline.
  4. Finally, using the Andis reVITE clippers with the fade blade attachment, I faded the beard to flatter his jawline. The compact size and cordless design make it perfect for on-the-go barbering.”

You ever wonder why Tom Hanks’ beard in Cast Away was so scraggly, misshapen, and rough? Well, it’s probably because he wasn’t using beard oil.

Beard oil is an underrated hair care necessity when it comes to men’s grooming. A good oil helps soften and hydrate facial hair, while minimizing beardruff. Yes, that’s a thing. Thankfully there are a lot of great products out there. Here are our top 5 recommendations for beard oils!

1. Grave Before Shave OG Blend Beard Oil

Grave Before Shave’s OG beard oil has jojoba and tea tree oil, vitamin E, and aloe vera all to soothe, strengthen and restore your beard. Jojoba oil is great for promoting healthy, thick hair, and moisturizes skin. The tea tree oil comes in to improve blood flow and prevent too much oil production, so say goodbye clogged pores and follicles. There are a number of different scents you can get this bad boy in, too: Sandalwood, Pine, Rum, or the one we linked: OG Citrus, which carries rosemary and lemon after notes. Who doesn’t like looking fresh while smelling fresh?

Get it at Amazon.com for $25 (4 oz.)

2. RICH Luxury Beard Oil by Rick Ross

Containing jojoba and grape-seed oils, Rick Ross’s RICH Luxury Beard Oil absolutely ranks in these top 5. This oil also has linoleic acid to limit inflammation of ingrown facial hairs and reduce the incidence of them. This is super helpful for maintaining the beards of men of color, who are more likely to experience ingrown beard hairs due to the maintenance of thick and curly facial hair. Another key ingredient is castor oil, which can stimulate and promote hair growth. Hey, if this is the secret to getting Rick Ross’s gorgeous beard — sign us up!

Get it at Amazon.com for $20 (1 oz.)

3. The Groom Hair and Beard Oil by Seb Man

The Groom by Seb Man has an exclusive blend of grape-seed, jojoba, almond and argan oils all working to give you that smooth sheen. This oil can be used for both facial hair and head hair to add shine and malleability. Aside from the versatility, our second favorite part of this beard softener is the scent: pink pepper and bergamot — yum!

Get it at MyWellaStore for $9.75 (1oz)

4. Four Vices Beard Oil by Beardbrand

Ranking in at number four, we have Four Vices by Beardbrand, named the best new beard oil for those long, thick manes. The scent is filled with aromas of coffee, tobacco, hemp and hops to get that earthy, floral scent. This product is almost weightless, while making that thick beard soft and shiny! With jojoba, castor, and grapeseed oils, this scruff treatment makes for one luscious beard.

Get it at GroomingLounge.com for $40 (1 oz.)

5. Wood & Spice Hot Oil Beard Treatment by Proraso

When it’s time to have a little bit of self-care, we highly recommend this hot oil treatment on your facial hair. As opposed to leaving this product in your beard until the next wash, this oil acts as a hydrating and strengthening mask. Breakage is the worst thing that can happen when you’re trying to grow out a nice long beard — that’s what’s so great about this treatment! It comes with 4 vials of oil and instructions on how much of it to use based on the length of your facial hair, from one-third of a vial to a full one! With the scent of cedarwood, saffron, and vanilla, this cruelty-free hot oil beard treatment is a must-have for nourishing and reconditioning your beard — no matter how wiry or coarse.

When it comes to grooming decisions, none is more important than deciding what style of facial hair most flatters your face. Seriously, facial hair or the lack thereof, can make or break your whole look. Because facial hair is not one-size-fits all, we have put together a handy little guide to help you out. No matter if you have a round face, square face, or something totally in-between, we’ve found the perfect style to compliment it.

Oval Face

https://www.instagram.com/p/BQl5LUejeRb/

Guys with an oval face, you’re in luck because many consider this the “ideal” face shape due to its symmetry and balanced proportions. Not to mention, you can literally pull off just about any beard style out there. So, why not try a stylish circle beard like Kevin Hart? Striking the perfect balance between clean-shaven and a full-on beard, a circle beard consists of a goatee and mustache that link together to form a circle shape.

Square Face

https://www.instagram.com/p/BTTK9igluCD/

Men with a square face shape are known for their sharp jawline and angular features. To soften up such a chiseled face, you might want to think about growing a traditional mustache like Superman star, Henry Cavill. A thick mustache perfectly complements the broadness of your face and will make your sharp jawline standout.

Triangular Face

https://www.instagram.com/p/BnvHuPPlM6-/

If you have a triangular face like actor Idris Elba, you more than likely have wide cheekbones, a narrower jawline, and a pointed chin. To give the impression of a fuller jawline, you want to try a well-maintained 5 o’clock shadow or a long, fuller beard. Instead of accentuating your chin even further, these styles will fill out the bottom portion of your face, creating fullness.

Diamond Face

https://www.instagram.com/p/CA0p7TZHjC-/

For guys with a diamond-shaped face like actor Robert Pattinson, it’s all about the cheekbones. Your cheeks are the widest part of your face especially compared to your jawline which is much more narrow and pointed. To make your face appear more symmetrical, you’ll want to try a style that draws attention to your chin like a chinstrap, a goatee, or even a full beard.

Round Face

https://www.instagram.com/p/CECaIcpF0y9/

If you have a rounder face like Avengers star Jeremy Renner, you tend to have wider cheekbones, a round jawline, and a short chin. To add length to your face, a Van Dyke beard is your best bet. This style, which consists of a full goatee with a detached mustache, balances out the roundness of your face and creates the appearance of a longer face with a more pronounced chin.

What style will you be trying out? Let us know in the comments below.

The internet’s been buzzing (The Tease included) about the struggles of soothing and preventing maskne. But, what about those folks who are in a slightly … hairier situation? Today, we’re talking mask-stache; the dry, confined and straight-up irritating state of facial hair that comes with wearing it under a constricting mask.

Facial hair introduces a whole new world of problems and concerns for folks as they safely venture out into the world while masked. From texture, to styling and the skin underneath, here are our recommendations for keeping facial hair as comfortable –– and as stylish –– as possible:

https://www.instagram.com/p/BvZoCQ8HJ2k/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Tangled & Matted Beard

What else would you expect when you’re stuffing coarse, textured strands into such a small surface? It’s the equivalent of hat hair … except you also can’t breathe. To untangle a snagged beard, always have a beard soap on-hand. The Seven Potions Beard Shampoo in Citrus Tonic deep cleans facial hair and moisturizes the skin underneath. Follow up by brushing through with the Seven Potions Oval Shaped Pear Wood With Natural Boar Bristles to smooth your mask-stache and prep for other products.

https://www.instagram.com/p/B6JxPPnnFeB/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Rampant Ingrown Hairs

Like with maskne, ingrown hairs are a mask-stache hallmark. To treat existing spots and prevent new ingrown hairs from forming, add a chemical exfoliator into your regular grooming rooting. The fur Ingrown Concentrate is an all-over body hair solution for men and women. It uses antimicrobial tea tree and tamanu oils to promote healthy skin generation.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CCBz6VfoMXS/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Itchy Skin

Dry skin can be a common concern for facial hair wearers, but heading into this fall and winter will make the issue even more pressing. Keep facial hair and skin moisturized with a hydrating formula like Beardbrand’s Beard Oil. With a nearly 5-star review from beard enthusiasts, this product nourishes skin and hair with a blend of Abyssinian, Babassu, Jojoba, and Castor oils. Distribute in your palms and run through your beard to relieve any itchiness your mask-stache is causing at the skin’s surface.

https://www.instagram.com/p/CDuHfkBnMSL/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Stray Mustache Hairs

Nothing is worse than clawing at your covered mask-stache to keep stubborn hairs in their place (and out of your mouth). Whether you’re a fan of a dramatic handlebar on the daily or just want to contain your shape during the grocery store, coat your fingers in a strong-hold mustache wax –– like this cult favorite from Death Grip –– and run them from center to tip. This formula is known for keeping hairs in place for up to eight hours, even in hot weather!

https://www.instagram.com/p/CDR2F2XgU-S/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link

Misfit Shape

Finally, if you’re finding that your beard just doesn’t fit in the mask, you may want to consider a new, tailored shape (a huge ask, I know). However, while we’re spending more time at home and commonly prioritizing health and comfort over fashion, a shorter beard style may be worth the temporary investment. For at-home trimmer, the Andis Versatrim is a great option. It features six attachments and a cordless design to customize your quarantine look for maximum comfort.

The brand shared the news in an email penned to Los Angeles Blind Barber friends and family. The Southern California re-opening follows Blind Barber’s Chicago location, which re-opened on June 8th.

Here is everything Blind Barber is doing to ensure they are “operating in a safe manner for everyone that walks through the door.”

Limited Space

In order to maintain social distancing protocols, Blind Barber has limited the number of barber chairs in-shop. They’ve also eliminated their waiting area to limit the number of people inside. Additionally, they’re encouraging clients to wait to enter until their barber signals them in.

Limited Services

Services are now by appointment only and are limited to haircuts only. Beard trims and hot shaves are unavailable at this time. However, Blind Barber’s Instagram contains many tips and tricks for those in need of a little extra help.

Furthermore, the shop will be implementing contactless checkout. Clients will have to prepay for cuts, and barbers will not accept cash tips. Blind Barber products will still be available for purchase but will also require a cashless transaction. Unfortunately, complimentary beverages will be unavailable for the time being.

Team Members

All Blind Barber staff will have their temperature checked and will wear face masks and gloves throughout the day. They must also wash their hands between all appointments and will complete a health questionnaire before returning to work.

Additionally, all touch points in the shop, including tools, chairs, counters etc., will be sanitized after each client. And each service will begin with a fresh clean set of barber capes, towels, etc. Not to mention, the barbershop will be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected each night.

Client Responsibility

Upon booking, clients will complete a short health questionnaire to ensure they have no symptoms of COVID-19 and have not been exposed to the virus. If clients develop symptoms or are exposed before their appointment, they can cancel at no charge.

Clients also must wear a face covering while in the shop. Blind Barber will supply a disposable mask for those who do not have one.
