With May being Mental Health Awareness Month, it’s more important than ever to speak up about mental health issues and the stigma that may come along with them. Whether that be by sharing resources on social media, speaking about your own struggles, making donations or shopping at businesses that advocate for awareness, it’s important that we all do our part.
From beauty and wellness to lifestyle and fashion, many brands are working towards minimizing stigma and creating conversations surrounding mental health. Here are five to shop this month.
IDONTMIND
Founded to provide a space for people to openly speak about mental health issues, lifestyle brand IDONTMIND sells apparel and accessories that keep the conversation going. Always donating 100% of their proceeds to Mental Health America, IDONTMIND is the perfect brand to support right now.
Along with offering stylish goods and fighting stigma, they’re also super vocal on their carefully curated Instagram account. This May, they’re highlighting young mental health advocates making waves in their own communities and are even hosting Run IDONTMIND, a virtual event meant to inspire effective conversations and raise awareness.
Rare Beauty
One of our favorite beauty brands fighting against mental health stigma is Selena Gomez’s Rare Beauty. With a goal of encouraging all users to embrace who they are, mental illnesses included, the beauty brand offers high quality makeup at an affordable price. They also raise funds to provide mental health services in underserved communities through their Rare Impact Fund.
And in support of Mental Health Awareness Month, Rare has launched the #MentalHealth101 campaign, which asks for donations to provide mental health support in educational settings. Shopping Rare Beauty not only gets you good products, but it supports a good cause as well.
Ban.do
Another brand worth shopping this month is Ban.do. Offering everything from clothing and accessories to home décor and planners, each item is meant to make customers feel happy. Their fun and optimistic goods include cheeky quotes and sayings that will bring a smile to your face and hopefully inspire a positive attitude.
For Mental Health Month, Ban.do is focusing on the emotions featured in their Feeling Feelings Card Deck, a collaboration with Marriage and Family Therapist Dr. Cassidy Freitas that encourages emotional conversations, inspires journal entries and more. Not to mention, 50% of the net proceeds will be donated to The Loveland Foundation.
Boohoo
Global fashion company Boohoo is another brand working towards minimizing stigma surrounding mental health. Providing trendy clothing for men and women, the brand is all about making their customers feel good and not take life too seriously. Most of their advocacy takes place on Instagram, where they consistently share encouraging quotes, good vibes and mental health resources.
For Mental Health Awareness Week, they launched a #BeKindToYourMind campaign to educate followers on ways to be kind themselves. They’re also making a series of donations to mental health charities chosen by their followers.
Philosophy
Last but not least, beauty brand Philosophy is always working towards inspiring beautiful skin and beautiful days. Offering everything from body and skin care to fragrances, each product is adorned with inspirational words and phrases that customers should live by. Their mental health and wellbeing mission includes donating funds to different scholarships and organizations through their Hope & Grace Initiative.
In addition to their philanthropic work and inspiring products, the brand’s Instagram also features words of encouragement, self-care reminders and other important conversations. Needless to say, shopping Philosophy not will not only make you look and feel good, but it will support a good cause as well.
