If there’s one thing we can always count on Bella Hadid to do, it’s serve some killer throwback hair. As of late, the top model, with the help of her hairstylist Evanie Frausto, has been giving us all serious Y2K nostalgia with her ever-changing hairstyles. From thick, chunky highlights to frosted tips, Hadid has managed to pull off even some of the era’s most questionable early 2000s styles with a certain ease—a move we find pretty impressive for someone who was only born in 1996.
As the reigning queen of early 2000s hair, it only feels right to celebrate some of her best early Aughts-style hair moments. Ahead, five times Bella Hadid totally schooled us all on Y2K hair.
Spiky Bun
Spiky updos were the look of choice for many a pop star during the early aughts — just ask Pink and Mandy Moore. That’s why it was only fitting that Hadid paid homage to the popular style at the 2020 Video Music Awards by sporting a spiky bun of her own, complete with pointy undone pieces and face-framing strands.
Baby Braids
If you didn’t rock micro braids growing up, were you even a kid during the 2000s? Hadid cosigned the TikTok-approved style with a high bun that was adorned with two wispy face-framing baby plaits.
Chunky Highlights
Just this week Hadid debuted chunky face-framing orange highlights with asymmetrical black locks and the entire look is so 2000s it hurts. Ginger Spice would have totally rocked this look back in the day!
Zigzag Part
If you want to know where Hadid stands in TikTok’s middle part vs. side part debate, she’s fully team zigzag—following in the footsteps of early aughts style icons like Kate Winslet, Christina Aguilera, and Jennifer Aniston. The supermodel took a more modern take on the look, rocking her zigzag part with a slicked-back low bun that looked effortlessly cool.
Frosted Tips
Few things are more 2000s than a set of frosted tips (one only has to look up pictures of Justine Timberlake from his NSYNC days to know exactly what I mean!). Hadid injected new life into the once-dead trend with a brown wig featuring blond-tipped ends styled by her hairstylist Evanie Frausto.
