ICYMI, Beauty brand founders were beefing this weekend. Molly Simms, founder of YISE Beauty and former model/tv personality, accused an unnamed brand of ripping off her product, Wide Awake Brightening & Depuffing Eye Cream, in a front camera video she posted to Instagram.

Although she didn’t name names, according to Simms, the product name, copy and marketing rollout were “too close to home.” And that while she “wasn’t mad, she was disappointed.”

Well, a few hours later it was clearer what happened, based on a post from Jones Road Beauty founder Bobbi Brown.

Brown’s post claimed that a trademark search showed no ownership on the name “Wide Awake,” so her team went ahead as planned with their own products (a brightening concealer and neutralizer). Brown plans to change her product name. She also notes that she’s “sorry it happened” and is “taking steps to correct it.”

So far, Simms’ feed is quiet. Did Brown’s post work? Are you now more aware of both brands than before? Will Katy Perry’s song from 2012 get licensed in a future campaign?
