A little ’90s nostalgia and a little perfectly imperfect glam never hurt anybody! For the Academy Museum Gala in Los Angeles red carpet, celebrity hairstylist Clayton Hawkins gave actress Lili Reinhart a sexy, tousled updo inspired by her archival ensemble, using Chris McMillan Hair to bring the look to life.
“For Lili Reinhart’s Academy Gala hair, we wanted to lean into the archival look she was wearing and go for a 1990s tousled updo. I wanted it to look like she almost threw it up herself,” Hawkins shares.

- “I started by blowing out her hair using my Chris McMillan The Glassy Smooth Blowdry Spray. Once it was all smoothed out and dry, it was time to rough it up.
- I curled her hair with a 1.25-inch iron and then coated her locks with Chris McMillan The Texture Spray. THIS was our hero product. It creates so much texture that you can fold and shape the hair so easily.
- Next, I used my favorite velvet-flocked hair pins to secure her hair up into a loose chignon. I then went in and pulled some random pieces out to keep it effortless and even a little ‘fuzzy.’
- To finish it all, I locked the style in with my Chris McMillan Major Hairspray.”
