Myha’la Herrold’s Hairstylist Monae Everett Reveals How to Recreate Her Braided Bantu Knots

08/15/2022

Amid a busy week of premieres for her shows Industry and Bodies, Bodies, Bodies, actress Myha’la Herrold still found time to bless us with yet another major hair moment

ICYMI, Herrold recently starred in an ultra-cool editorial for SSENSE that was just unveiled and as expected, she looked absolutely phenomenal—especially her hair. For the shoot, the young starlet sported jumbo braided bantu knots that were incredibly eye-catching. Created by celebrity hairstylist Monae Everett (she counts stars like Tia Mowry, Yara Shahidi, and Brenda Song as clients), this head-turning hairstyle was inspired by her and Herrold’s mutual love of “organic styles and odd numbers.”

Naturally, we had to call on Everett to spill all the details on how to recreate Herrold’s look. Keep scrolling, for her super easy how-to.

To create this jaw-dropping look, Everett began by dividing the hair into three different sized sections. Then, she created a three strand braid with each section, wrapping them down onto themselves into bantu knots, making sure to leave the ends exposed.

PRO TIP: For fuller bantu knots add hair extensions. “Choose a texture similar to your own and color that matches the ends of your hair,” Everett said.

To smooth the three large braided Bantu knots, she used Qhemet Biologics Aethiopika Hydrate & Twist Butter ($18.00)” This butter locks in hydration and makes the hair shine something fierce,” Everett shared.

PRO TIP: To keep the ends of the hair luminous and tangle-free, add a serum like the Qhemet Biologics Coconut & Green Tea Softening Serum ($14.50).
